The Santa Monica airport was a 3,500-foot, single strip of asphalt in the middle of urban Los Angeles. Being a few miles from Malibu, Beverly Hills, and downtown Los Angeles, it served the most elite neighborhoods in LA. Shining under the bright sun, a speckled white Gulfstream G150 plane started with a searing high-pitched whir. On the staircase to the plane, a man dressed in jeans, white t-shirt, sports jacket and wearing a pair of Oakley sunglasses below a red Dodgers baseball cap stopped. He felt his cellphone vibrating in his pocket. Below the baseball cap, the slender-bodied, greying, middle-aged man hid his scarred face. He took off his glasses revealing piercing blue eyes and looked at the phoneâs screen.
âIâm about to board a plane that will take off in seconds so we need to keep it short.â His voice fought to be heard over the wind and the noise of the engines. âJust a moment,â he said as he stepped inside the plane to collapse on a large white leather sofa. The rest of the aircraft was empty. âThatâs better. Now, what can I do for you?â
âThank you for taking my call,â Kether said. âI just wanted to know if you received the package in good order?â
It had only been a few hours since heâd sent the pictures taken by Malkuth, but he was curious to know what his employer thought and having heard nothing he had grown concerned. Usually, the boss was much quicker to respond and always with a thousand questions asked in that gravelly voice that gave him the chills. Heâd never met the man, but he hated the sound of his voice.
âI got everything.â
âAnd what do you think?â
âI meant to call you, but my attention was needed elsewhere. The information you sent is good.â
âSo, what do we do now?â Kether asked.
âFor now, I need you to lie low.â The man glanced at the stewardess approaching him to hand over a glass of wine before advising him to buckle up his seatbelt.
âWhat do you mean?â
âWell,â there was a short pause. âFor now, we have translated all the information we need so we donât need your services. Weâll pick it up from here. I understand your man has been seen, but as we have all the information we need to proceed, thereâs no need for your man to continue for now. He can only jeopardize the mission.â
Kether thought for a moment, hearing the engines of the plane whirring at an ever-higher pitch in the background. âDo you have someone on the ground over there?â
âNot yet, but we can be there in 24 hours.â
â24 hours?â Kether said somewhat desperately. âIf you think you have a head start now you will have lost it by the time you hit the ground in Israel. We need to act now. If we discover the next lead before they do it will all be over for them. Theyâll have no other option, but to quit.â
The line went silent for a long moment and Kether could almost hear his employer thinking on the other end.
